Leidseplein Square and its surroundings are one of the most attractive entertainment centers in Amsterdam. In the area there are lots of bars, restaurants, discos, cinemas and theaters. Here you will also find the Holland Casino.

During the day, street performers offer their shows and the square is filled with jugglers, pampering, swallowing fires and musicians.

If you want to go shopping, Leidsestraat is one of the most saturated streets of fashion shops.

If you like to have historical references, the Leidseplein area was formerly a parking lot where carriages were left before entering the city.

Opposite the square is the Municipal Theater, a huge neo-renaissance building built in 1894.

Strolling around the Leidseplein square you can discover some architectural gems, such as the American Hotel, built in 1900, is one of the most exclusive hotels in the city.

For dinner and a drink

Leidseplein is one of the best areas of Amsterdam to end the day. In the bars and restaurants of the square (especially on the terraces during the summer) you can enjoy the always lively street show.

As a curiosity, in the street Max Euweplein, next to the Leidseplein Square, you will find a lot of people pending of the game of chess that is played in a giant board.
